How it works

How MailStreet works

A real street address for your business, and your mail on your phone. Here's exactly what happens, from sign-up to your first letter.

What a virtual business address is (and isn't)

It’s an address and mail service. You get a real street address in Preston, Melbourne, to use as your registered office, on the ABR, on your website and on invoices. We receive your mail there and show it to you on your phone.

It isn’t an office. An address and mail service. No desk or room is included. “Suite NNNNN” in your address is your mailbox reference, which is how we sort mail to you.

People often call this a “virtual office”. Here’s what that term means.

You get

  • A real street address, not a PO Box
  • An occupier’s consent letter for ASIC
  • A photo of every envelope, on your phone
  • Scan, shred, forward or collect

You don’t get

  • A desk, room or workspace
  • A Google Maps listing. We don’t sell Google listings.
Sign-up

From sign-up to approved

Sole traders usually finish in minutes. Companies with several owners take as long as it takes everyone to do their ID check.
  1. Choose a plan

Monthly or annual. Switch later if you need to.

  2. Business details

Your ABN is checked against the ABR. We fill in your business name for you.

  3. People

For companies and trusts: directors, and anyone owning 25% or more.

  4. Pay

Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Full refund if checks don’t pass.

  5. Verify ID

Photo ID plus a quick selfie on your phone. Each person gets their own link.

  6. Approved

Your address, consent letter and mail alerts are switched on.

Why we verify

ID checks, in plain English

We’re required by Australian anti-money-laundering law to verify everyone behind the businesses using our address. We check:

  • You, if you’re a sole trader.
  • For companies and trusts: the person signing up, every director, and anyone who owns or controls 25% or more.

Read our AML/KYC policy.

When mail arrives

What happens to a letter

  1. We receive it at our Preston mail point.
  2. We photograph the envelope (we don’t open it).
  3. You get an alert with the photo.
  4. You choose: scan, shred, forward or collect. Scans requested before 2pm on a business day are usually done the same day.

ID check questions

Why do you check ID?

We're required by Australian anti-money-laundering law to verify everyone behind the businesses using our address. It protects you too: nobody can register a company at your suite under a false name.

What ID do I need?

A current Australian driver licence or passport (or an overseas passport), and your phone for a quick selfie check. It takes about two minutes.

Who else needs to verify?

Sole traders: just you. Companies and trusts: the person signing up, plus anyone who owns or controls 25% or more, and company directors. Each person gets their own secure link by email.

What if a check fails?

Your address isn't released and we refund you in full, automatically. If we need more information, we'll ask before making a decision.
